Covid-19 Office Policy and Governor's Mandates

Covid-19 Office Policy and Governor's Mandates

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share our Office Policy with you, regarding protocols in place to help prevent the spread of Covid-19, while continuing to support your health.

There have, understandably, been MANY questions about the mandates and best approaches to navigating this unfortunate challenge put before us all.

Our policy has been devised from "the science", the requirements of the mandates, and the balancing of many factors.

We are happy to discuss our policy or any other questions you have around Covid-19 and how to best care for you and your family.

In light of the recent spike in case numbers and the governor's recent changes to his policies on Friday, 11/13/20, I felt this was a good time to highlight what we are doing and why.

Your health is our #1 Priority and that includes your emotional well being. We believe that knowledge, as much as is available, is the best way to support. Critical thinking and asking questions is always recommended!

Dr. Chris Perron

***Our Covid-19 Office Policy was reviewed with the Fairfax Co. Health Dept. on 9/22/20. They confirmed that our policy meets or exceeds the intent of all mandates and guidelines***

Covid–19 Office Policy for Perron Chiropractic

The following protocols have been put into place in accordance with CDC, Virginia Dept. of Health and Fairfax Co. Health Dept. Guidelines

Office Space:

  • The front door to the building will be tied open during office hours to minimize the need to contact doorknobs
  • The inner office door cannot be tied open as it would block the restroom door. We have covered the doorknobs with NanoSeptic ‘Continuously Self-cleaning Surface’ adhesive.
  • There are no sign-in sheets, magazines, children’s books, etc.
  • A plexiglass curtain has been installed at the front desk ‘Checkout” area, as this is only area where maintaining 6+ feet distance from staff is not possible.
  • Windows are kept open in the treatment area, weather permitting, to add to air flow
  • Treatment tables are 6 feet apart and all patients are required to lay face down while awaiting their treatment (this is better for treatment anyway) but avoids patients being upright and speaking in the treatment area.
  • The designated space to place keys, wallets, etc. while being treated, is covered in Nanospetic ‘Continuously Self-cleaning Surface’ adhesive.
  • Signage is located on the Front Desk requesting all patients wear facial coverings and options for anyone who meets the exceptions outlined in the governor’s mandate

Patients:

  • All patients are screened when appointments are made for possible Covid-19 symptoms or contact with an infected person
  • If there is a possibility of contact and therefore infection the patients are asked to follow either quarantine guidelines or be tested prior to receiving an appointment
  • All patients are asked to wear facial coverings upon entering the office and in the reception area
  • Facial coverings are optional while being treated as the patients are face down and it creates breathing difficulty for some patients.
  • We also acknowledge that some patients may experience adverse health effects by wearing a facial covering. We will make accommodations to continue to treat those patients while appreciating that they may be asked to wait outside the building if there is not sufficient space in the reception area for them and other patients to be social distanced
  • All treatment tables are disinfected following every patient
  • Staff will place a clean face paper on the table after it has been disinfected and we request that the patient dispose of their face paper following treatment.

 Doctors and Staff:

  • Doctors and staff are evaluated for any sign of Covid-19 symptoms at the beginning of every shift and if so, follow appropriate testing and/or quarantine protocols before returning to work.
  • Doctors and staff are mandated to volunteer the possibility of having been in contact with a potentially infected person and if so, follow appropriate testing and/or quarantine protocols before returning to work.
  • Doctors and staff will wear masks when within 6 feet of patients
  • This always includes in private exam rooms, exercise instruction, etc.
  • The primary Treatment area is a 32’ x 15’ open space and it is very simple to maintain much more than 6 feet distance most of the time, which is ideal. When the doctor or staff is engaging a patient within 6 feet, face to face, then doctor or staff will be wearing a mask
  • Doctors and staff may not have a mask on while over 6 feet away, as all have experienced some level of adverse symptoms when we initially attempted to wear masks for up to 9 hours in a day.
  • We also found that communication with the patients was made much more difficult leading to needing to speak much louder and longer appointments. Both are negatives regarding the goals of not projecting as much as possible upon exhalation as well as less time in the office overall. These are the reasons that the doctors and staff do not wear masks at all times, in the literal sense.
  • The doctors do not speak to the patients unless they are beyond the patient’s feet at the end of the table, with the patient face down, over 6 feet. The doctor will wear a mask if face to face closer communication is needed, under 6 feet.
  • Doctors and staff wear masks in a purposeful manner for the sake of achieving the extra layer of protection mandated when within 6 feet, we also continue to strive to maintain treatment times around 2-3 minutes as another layer of protection minimizing any potential exposure time
